Door…don’t let it hit you on the arse sir…
From DT letters page on the subject of Cameron’s edict on the daft situation of Tory MEPs sitting with the uber-federalist EPP in the European Parliament.
Sir - In case there should be any doubt about it in any quarter, may I confirm the commitment which I gave to William Hague when he was party leader, that I have no intention, after 30 years of elected service to the Tory party, of breaking my word and leaving the EPP-ED group in the European Parliament.
If ordered to leave the EPP-ED, which I was recommended to join by Margaret Thatcher and Chancellor Kohl, I shall ignore any such instruction, which would be in breach of Parliament’s rules on the independence of elected members.
I would appeal to David Cameron MP to reflect on the advice given by his European allies and colleagues, notably Angela Merkel, that elections are won by occupying the centre ground where the votes are, and not by marching off into the wilderness, where we have languished for too long.
I remain a Tory MEP, proud and honoured to be a constructive member of the majority centre Right Party of Conservatives and Christian Democrats.
Christopher Beazley MEP, Strasbourg
He obviously does not seem to strike him as odd that he sits with parties whose position on the EU is polar opposites to that of the party whose flag he stands under. This is typical of some Tory MEPs and the reason why UKIP is doing so well. Its as if Tory MEPs have a collective brain fart (well except Dan Hannen MEP) when they cross the channel and forgot who they are representing. Angela Merkel a political ally? On what bloody planet is this twit living?
If Howard Flight MP got booted for hinting at further tax cuts then this cretin should surely get booted for not following Tory policy. As I have said before; this is Cameron’s big test of leadership. He fails it at his peril.

One hears of George Eustice selling his story off to The Standard about how David Cameron has failed to stop smoking ny his promised 7th December. Not one to relish sour grapes within the opposition front ranks I do wonder if perhaps DC’s actual words were “I promise to get rid of the fags by 7th December” in which case I can fully sympathise with Mr Eustice’s backstabbing …
