"So we have a fight on our hands to push forward the course of liberty. It is never been any different. So let's get on with it and make sure we mix it up with as much foot-stamping rock music as possible. Onward and upward!"

Richard Feynman sums it up

Richard Feynman is a hero of mine. I am not a scientist, but even someone with a mainly arts background like yours truly can appreciate the intellectual brilliance, lust for knowledge and discovery that was the animating force of his life. And throughout, Feynman hated tyranny, oppression, and narrow-mindedness in all its forms.

Today, the Fourth of July is a good time to remember what he said about the importance of liberty. (Hat tip, Glenn Reynolds).

Happy birthday, USA.

Bloggers can even be accountants.

The June issue of the “Journal of Accountancy” published by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants headlines the article “Would You, Could You, Should You Blog?” In the article, accountants, auditors, tax accountants, IT accounting consultants are encouraged to use a blog as a business tool. These are very conservative people. They are simply not early adopters. It is encouraging to see that this scholarly journal is urging a very modern and informal method of communicating with colleagues, clients, and potential clients. The objective of making very difficult information more transparent by pooling nuggets of helpful hints from many sources is another step on the road to freedom from perplexity. ( Perplexity is a condition created by simple options obscured by professional jargon. ) The people who can translate the tax and tax legal mumbo jumbo into straight-forward assistance to individuals and their companies will win the race. Who knows? Perhaps the Monty Python sketch of the boring accountant will be rendered obsolete.

I checked a few of the tax sites and found them interesting, but then, I am a tax accountant:
