Lee on Labour’s Euro-cronies
Dodgey is not exactly apt but getting there. Dr Lee Rotherham explains exactly who Labour MEPs share a grouping with over there in Brussels. Be prepared to cringe.

Udders at it again…
This bit of disgusting news comes via Spy.So why does she back PETA, that wonderful bunch of animal right’s terrorists? Just as with fox-hunting she is wrong.
Ann Widdecombe is already known as one of those rare political beasts: a Conservative who supported the ban on foxhunting.
But now I learn that the Maidstone MP has waded into the ongoing row over the use of bearskins by the five regiments of foot Guards.
She has joined the campaign being waged by the animal rights group Peta, and has just written to all Conservative MPs asking them to support a parliamentary motion demanding that the MoD outlaw the practice.
“Many people assume that these hats are now made from fake fur, but unfortunately they are still fashioned from the skins of Canadian black bears,” she fumes. “Whatever the circumstances, there is really no need in the 21st century for these hats to be made of animal fur.”
There is no need in the 21st century Conservative Party for paternalistic Europhile hags either. Has woman been sound on anything? Ever? Her retirement from the party could not come too soon. What a disgrace that woman is.

Dan on EPP row…
As per normal Dan Hannan neatly sums up the reason why the Conservatives in Europe have no business in the EPP while at the same time exposing the spin against leaving. The good thing, of course, is more and more people are listening to Dan’s position and coming on board. Its times for Cameron & Hague to show some spine and deliver on their promise.
A personal boycott
During the World Cup I am personally boycotting any establishment that has the football on; especially if they did not have a television in the establishment before now. To wit I will not be going to the Willow Walk nr Victoria nor Caramel. Both of these establishments now have large TVs blaring out the World Cup matches. It ruins my enjoyment of the establishment so I shan’t be going in there.
Why do I tell you this? Because this is a clear example of what non-smokers should be doing instead of imposing their fascists attitudes on the rest of us (same with anti-hunting idiots). If you don’t like something, boycott it, don’t wimp out and use the cudgel of the state to ruin it for everyone else. I would include people who want to ban the burning of the American flag in this as well/
I hope those of you who find wall-to-wall World Cup an annoyance and an affront will join me in boycotting places that have no taken your feelings into account. If you really are annoyed write the company a letter as I have to Whetherspoon but don’t go to your local MP and whinge.

EUtopia possible?
The ASI saw the launch of EUtopia. This is a pamphlet on how to reform the EU and it must be done. While the pamphlet is well written and spot on; one does have to wonder if another attempt by the British to return the EU to its roots will have any more success than the last attempts. The authors do have a good point in saying that Blair & Co have not been particularily trying to get any reform from the organisation. Their surrender of the British rebate for little or no in return was not a good sign of intentions. The pamphlet is available for free download and is well worth the read.
On the other hand Fjordman wants to see the EU cease to be as soon as possible.

He just doesn’t get it…
Adam Rickitt whinges in the Telegraph today; alas he does not get why people are annoyed he is on the list. This piece does not shed light on what exactly qualifies him to be on the A-list. Expect a lively discussion on this and the fact that there is wobbling on the EPP pull-out over at Conservative Home.

Cameron a Kinnock?
Donald Malcolm seems to think Cameron is in danger of becoming the Conservative’s Kinnock-figure. I am not Cameron’s biggest fan but comparing him to Kinnock is a bit harsh or is it?
Get out of EPP
There is a site called Adieu-EPP set up to make sure Cameron sticks to his word and gets the Tories out of the federalist grouping.

Tory crowing…
They might actually examine the fact that they really aren’t doing that great. After all Hague did better in the local elections than Cameron did.

Boris defends the right to say silly things in a most sensible way
Fine piece in the Daily Telegraph today by columnist and Tory MP Boris Johnson on the subject of free speech and erosion thereof by Blair’s government. Nothing remotely new about this to LC readers of course, but even so, the more comments like Johnson’s, the better. My only query is whether his views are clearly shared by Conservative leader David Cameron. Does Cameron want to reverse the assaults on expression as have happened under the various terrorism acts, crime acts; does he propose to restore, in full, the right to trial by jury, restore the double jeopardy principle, the presumption of innocence principle? It is a long list, but would not it be great if Cameron could announce a repeal of all these things in one fell swoop. Maybe he should call it the “restoration of British liberties” bill. After all, Cameron seems to be clearly going after the liberal-minded middle classes as well as the less well-off. If he wants to be a genuinely liberal brand of Tory, what better than to associate modern Conservatism with civil, as well as economic, liberty in one magnificent gesture?
